Skin that feels tight by lunchtime?

Air-con at work, the heat pump at home, a cold southerly on the way in. By the afternoon your skin feels tight and your moisturiser seems to have vanished.

Why hyaluronic acid

Hyaluronic acid holds water at the surface of your skin, like a sponge. Here it's joined by niacinamide, collagen extract and vitamin E, so skin is left feeling like it's had a long drink. This jar also contains retinol, kojic acid and arbutin, so patch test first and wear sunscreen the next day. Like every Omorfia formula, it mixes, sets and peels the same way.

What you'll notice:

Ingredients

Patch test first. Hyaluronic Acid contains retinol, kojic acid and arbutin, so wear sunscreen the day after using it, and don't use it on the same day as other retinoids or exfoliating acids. If you're pregnant or breastfeeding, check with your doctor first.

Full ingredients and what they do

Full ingredients, as on the jar: Zea Mays (Corn) Starch, Niacinamide, Sodium Alginate, Allantoin, Kojic Acid, Arbutin, Collagen Extract, Hyaluronic Acid, Acetate, Rose Petal, Glutathione, Oryzanol (Oryza Sativa Bran Oil) Extract, Tocopherol, Retinol, Acetyl Hexapeptide-8, Fullerenes, Ascorbyl Glucoside, Rosa Rugosa Flower, Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Flower Powder, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Flower Powder

Key ingredients

  • Corn starch (plant starch): gives the mask its body so it spreads in an even, thick layer.
  • Sodium alginate (algin) (gel from brown seaweed): turns the powder into a cool jelly that sets and peels off in one piece.
  • Niacinamide (vitamin B3): supports the skin barrier and helps tone look more even.
  • Hyaluronic acid (humectant): holds water at the surface for a plumper, hydrated look.
  • Collagen extract (skin conditioner): forms a light film that makes skin feel smoother.
  • Allantoin (skin conditioner): soothes and leaves skin feeling soft.
  • Rose (rosa rugosa flower and petals): part of the botanical blend, with a soft rose character.
  • Kojic acid (from fermented rice): helps the look of uneven tone and dark spots.
  • Arbutin (from bearberry leaf): helps tone look more even.
  • Glutathione (antioxidant): helps skin look brighter and fresher.
  • Vitamin C (ascorbyl glucoside) (antioxidant): helps skin look brighter.
  • Vitamin E (antioxidant): conditions skin and helps protect it from dryness.
  • Retinol (vitamin A): helps skin look smoother. It can make skin more sensitive to the sun, so wear sunscreen the next day.
  • Acetyl hexapeptide-8 (peptide): helps skin feel smoother.
  • Fullerenes (antioxidant): helps skin look fresher.
  • Chamomile and lavender (dried flower powders): part of the botanical blend.

How to use it

  1. Cleanse your face and neck.
  2. Stir 3 level tablespoons of powder into 2 tablespoons of cool water until smooth, like thick yoghurt.
  3. Smooth it on thickly with the flat end of the spatula straight away, keeping it away from your eyes, eyebrows, lips and hairline.
  4. Lie back for 15 to 20 minutes while it sets into jelly.
  5. Peel off in one piece from the jaw upward, then rinse.

Put the used mask in the bin, not down the drain. One to three times a week suits most people. More detail in how to use a jelly mask.
